Gregory Dale Richey

Gregory Dale Richey, 73, of Bourbonnais, Illinois, passed at home surrounded by his family. He was born on October 18, 1952, in Kankakee, Illinois, to Dale and Barbara (Reniche) Richey. Greg married the love of his life, Debbie (Devereaux) Richey, on March 5, 1971, and together they built a devoted family and life rooted in faith, hard work, and service to others. He served his country in the United States Army and was deployed to Vietnam during the war, a service that remained a source of deep pride. A retired truck driver, Greg was known for his strong work ethic and generous spirit, often volunteering as Santa Claus for his CB club and supporting Kankakee Petticoat Softball. Greg was a lifelong Catholic and a member of St. Joseph Parish in Bradley, Illinois. He loved spending time with his family and had many hobbies, including collecting stamps and sports cards. He was an avid outdoorsman, a longtime member of the Kankakee Sportsman's Club where he volunteered in many board positions over the years and especially loved camping and fishing. He was also a member of Exline Sportsman's Club. He is survived by his wife, Debbie Richey; his daughters and sons-in-law, Tammy and Bruce Jones, and Candace and Todd Ninis. He is also survived by his siblings and in-laws: Gina and Larry Tapp, Brian and Barbara Richey, Derek Richey, Shannon and Erin Richey. Also, survived by his in-laws Wally Gero, Michelle and Doug Owensby, Mike and Robin Devereaux. Greg was a proud grandfather to Jared and Kristina Richey, Kaycee and Zachary Weidner, Nathan Richey, Joshua and Bailey Wilhoyt, Jordyn, Avory, Mallory, and Cortlynn Ninis, Chase and Gunner Jones, and a cherished great-grandfather to Bella, Izayah, Ria, Gabby, Avery, Lucia and Sophia Richey, Marilynne and Madison Weidner, and LaineyJo Wilhoyt. Also surviving are his faithful canine companions Piper, Pumbaa, Loki and Scarlett. Greg was preceded in death by his son, Jesse Richey; his grandsons, Kyle Richey and Cody Wilhoyt; his parents, Dale and Barbara Richey; and his in-laws Theresa Devereaux, Lawerence Devereaux, Don and Pat Devereaux, Joan and De Kerschke, Ann Gero, and Dennis Gero. Greg will be laid to rest at Abraham Lincoln Cemetery, and a celebration of life will be held in the Spring of 2026. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the wishes of the family.
