Shirley Ann Berge

Shirley Ann Berge, 79, of Manteno, peacefully passed away on Friday, May 31, 2024, at her home surrounded by loved ones. Shirley was born on May 17, 1945, in Chicago, IL., the daughter of Joseph and Rose (Fischer) Oswald. She married Jan Egil Berge in 1969 and they were happily married for 50 years before his passing on January 23, 2020. Shirley worked as an inside sales representative for an electrical supply distribution company for many years. Shirley was a woman like no other, with a spirit as stubborn as it was spunky. Shirley had a zest for life that was contagious to those around her. She found immense joy in the simple pleasures, like shopping trips to Costco and gambling at the casino at the $5 slot machines. Her heart was as big as her love for her family. Shirley has an incredible ability to make everyone feel special and loved, not ever letting anyone leave her house empty handed. Her empathy and generosity knew no bounds; she was always there with a listening ear, a warm hug, and sound advice from the world as she knew it. Shirley is survived by her son, Paul Martin Berge; 2 sisters, Rose Taylor, Ruth Vaughn; a brother, Bill Oswald; a grandchild, Ava Ann Louise Berge. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Jan Egil Berge, her parents, Joseph and Rose Oswald; a sister, Mary Noga; 4 brothers, Joseph Oswald, Raymond Oswald, Bob Oswald, and Edward Oswald. As we say goodbye to an amazing woman, we hold onto the countless memories of her laughter, her warmth, and her indomitable spirit. You will be deeply missed but never forgotten. We’ll be listening for a whisper of “Hiya babe, I was just thinking about you”. Cremation rites have been accorded. A visitation will be held at Jensen Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, starting at 4pm until the service at 6:30pm officiated by Deacon Clodi. Jensen Funeral is located at 3639 E. State Route, Kankakee, IL., 60901. For those that are taking Interstate 57 South, please use Exit 312. Once you get off of the ramp at the stoplight, turn left and head about a mile and a half outside of downtown. Jensen Funeral Home will be located on the frontage road on your left.
